Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!

I'm going to start out with my list of thankfuls:

  • The Lord above for giving me strength when I am weak....emotionally...especially during the holidays

  • For Jeff's safety this week, that I have another Thanksgiving to share with him...he was hurt on a job site this week at work, a steel pole that someone had leaned against the wall fell over and hit his head..very close to his temple. He has a knot, and his head hurts..but I think he is going to be okay...he is alive...it could have been much worse! If a tractor trailer had not been there for him to fall into...he would have fallen 5ft off the dock...We are blessed ~ Thank you Lord!

  • For a wonderful family...both my side and my inlaws....I love them dearly.

  • For our jobs, our business, the roof over our head and for food on the table

I was only suppose to be off work thursday..on Thanksgiving Day...cause we already had 2 people signed up to be off the day before and the day after...Monday one of the girls took her name off the calendar for today...so I hurried and put my name down to be off for today... I am so excited...I have to go back to work friday...but that doesn't bother me because I don't get out in the crowds on black friday it drives me crazy! The deals are great but it's not worth it to me, having to put up with all the rude people!

My side of the family isn't getting together on Thanksgiving for the 2nd year in a row...it really bothers me...but what do ya do, ya know? We got together every year for as long as i can remember...but since my Aunt Judy passed away things have changed.....we still get together at Christmas and that is what means the most to me...I do understand now that all of the grandkids have gotten older that every "family" has their own traditions now...I even started one of my own last year , fixing Thanksgiving dinner here for Jeff and I....but I still wish my family would get together even if it's a week before or something...oh well enough whining about that.

I didn't know if I was going to attempt to cook Thanksgiving dinner again this year or not...but I have decided I am going to try to keep the tradition for Jeff and I...I really enjoy it. I hadn't planned on inviting anyone to join us, cause frankly I cringe at the thought of someone other than Jeff and I eating my cooking...haha! Jeff says I'm a good cook...but I just don't know. I don't enjoy cooking all that much, but I can....thankfully Jeff is a great cook and shares in that duty in the kitchen.

So anyways...last night we went to Krogers to get everything we needed and we bumped into his mom....she had just left the Dr. and has a double ear infection ...I know by all the goodies in our cart...she could tell we were going to have a feast...so I told her if she felt up to it she was more than welcome to join us tonight for Thanksgiving dinner....she acted like she wanted to and is suppose to call today sometime to let us know...so then I thought I can't just invite my MIL without inviting my parents too...lol Mom said thanks for the invite but they are gonna stay home.... I offered :) So here I am nervous about how it's gonna turn out....it should be fine...keeping my fingers crossed!

We are having Thanksgiving dinner with Jeff's whole family at the church tomorrow evening....that should be fun...it's been awhile since everyone has got together...we are going to go earlier to help Jeff's mom get everything set up...since we will be having turkey there...I opted to get a whole ham to cook for our Thanksgiving dinner at home...don't want to get sick of turkey....so here is my menu for tonight:

  • whole ham cooked for hours in the crockpot
  • slow cooked green beans
  • stuffing
  • mashed taters
  • cream corn casserole(Thanks Kelly)
  • yeast rolls
  • Turtle Pie and Oreo Cream Pie

I think that is all, unless I decide to throw something else together ...I didn't make my pies..they are store bought...haha I cheated :)~ They are Edwards brand and ohhhh sooo good! They were on sale for $4.99 each...reg. $7 or $8 and I had a $1 coupon.... I also had a $1 coupon for my yeast rolls too...Sister Schuberts is the brand they taste homemade!

So my ham is in the crockpot and my green beans are in the slow cooker...now I just need to catch up with ya'll, forgive me I am staying behind these days...and then I need to get off my hiney and clean this house...

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends....

One last thankful...I am thankful for YOU!

Until next time...

*Thanks to Chris and Phyllis for my beautiful graphics

  4. Great post. I also agree with the comments above. The meal sounds delicious. Most of all I am glad the love of your life is okay. It is great to be able to put into prospective of 'what could have been!' Thank God it wasn't. My side of the family got together about 8 years straight, then that went by the way side. Sherry's family was always close. That aged out too.
That is life, enjoy what you can while you can.

  5. Terri everything sounds wonderful. Your food will be great. Maybe one day soon like next year the time will be right for your moms side to get together. I will admit that since Alan died I have not hosted Thanksgiving. One of the kids do. I will never ever have Christmas here. It is hard enough to just get through it. Happy thanksgiving Terri.

  8. Your dinner sounds awesome, Terri! I know it will be delicious. I find Thanksgiving and Christmas just so darned depressing anymore. My kids are grown. Their traditions are so tied up with my ex-inlaws. I refuse to ruin it for them because it's a wonderful thing. My family is just my mom, brother and his wife. Not that I care much for my brother and SIL. Life just seems to move on as we "grow" up. Guess, we need to make new traditions. Hope you have a wonderful day and thank the Lord your Jeff didn't get hurt real bad. I'm keeping him in my prayers. Love ya!

  11. Terri your meal sounds wonderful I know it will
be good. The older you get the smaller the family Jack and I are the only ones left in our family. Holidays are sad when family member are missing. That is scary about Jeff.
God was looking out for him. HAVE A WONDERFUL
    THANKSGIVING.
