Scared....shitless!

This afternoon I made an appointment , one i've dreaded for quite some time but needed to make years ago...

Growing up we couldn't afford to go to the dentist....so we just didn't go....my whole family Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles etc....all have dentures, partials etc.... not many had good teeth...including myself

When I was about 5 or 6 years old my Aunt Judy kept me alot while mom worked...and that day my Uncle Jeff was there as well....thats what I can remember of the day.... Judy called for me to come into the living room....I came running up behind her and she didn't see me and her elbow as she turned around knocked my 2 front teeth out, well actually broke them off at the gumline.... she was horrified...I think she and my uncle Jeff were scared....I really don't remember me throwing much of a fit....I would have to ask my Uncle Jeff....but I think I was in too much shock to do much of anything.... I just remember Judy freaking out and I believe they called mom at work.... anyways I survived....lol

That is the one and only time I have been to a dentist in my life

I'm sure you have noticed that in alot of my pictures I don't smile....I hate my teeth....I hate my smile....it's embarrassing to say the least... and for once in my life I want a pretty smile, one to be proud of.... I want to be able to smile as often as I want to and laugh without being cautious , trying to hide my teeth...

In the sunday paper there was a coupon for a free exam and xrays....but it expires on June 15th.... I thought about it a couple days....scared to actually make that call and set up an appointment....wanted to chicken out 1,000 times....

I did it.....I made the call....I go next Wed. the 10th for my exam and xrays.... I plan on getting dentures....not sure if I want to get a couple of extractions at a time or if I want to just get it all over with at once like Mom did.... honestly although I know after the pain pills wear off it will be painful....I think getting them all pulled at once is the way to go.... some may have to be cut out...I will find out more once they do the xrays....

More visits = more $

I do have dental insurance....thank the Lord...so that will help alot....I'm hoping they will work with me and set up a payment plan....we shall see....

So please send good thoughts, vibes, prayers my way...that everything goes okay and that there isn't much pain....I'm scared to death and I don't tolerate pain well, I'm not ashamed to say I am a big ol' baby....LOL

So you know for at least a month or two there will be no pics of me on here whatsoever....not gonna be posting any toothless pics... no sir ri' bob! hahaha

If I can get support from anywhere I know I can find it here where all my friends hang out :) Thanks bunches!

  1. You go girl. Do it. Plenty of pretty women have had dentures younger than you. And that is right, no toothless shots even for the fun. You have too much class for that. It will be tough at first, just getting used to, but I hear it is worth it. So Yeah! Don't quit. Also the technology now is improved so much. I had a root canal the other day and did not hurt one time.
So Mr. Dentist is not a bug-a-boo. Go ON, you deserve it.

  3. I will be praying for you. I have gone to the dentist regularly up until a couple years ago, now I've been putting it off because my wisdom teeth are going to need to come out and I don't want to go through that. I need to make myself though, so it doesn't cause problems. Good for you, for taking care of this. You'll get through it just fine, and you'll be glad you did!

  5. I got cracked in the mouth by a tennis rackett when I was about 14. As a result, I have a crack that goes all the way thru my front tooth. But for some reason, it has never fallen out. It puzzles every dentist I have visited. But one of these days, I know I will be tested to do the same thing and I am encouraged by your post. Praying God will give you strength and peace and allay your fears. You are going to do good! God bless!

  7. I'd still really like to see the toothless pics, but I will settle for the after-work smile. I'll be thinking of you & I am sure it will go well.

  8. Terri, I was in the same boat as you. Both my mother and gradfather (mother's father) had denture early. My teeth aren't the best either. My mother never took me 'cause she didn't I "needed it". @@ Over the past few years I've had A LOT of work done (fillings) because of it. It's tough, but ya gotta do it. Thinking of you!!!

  10. You are nearly NOT alone. Im the same, thankfully I love my dentist and have had all my work done and finally am cavity free, and it feels SO good. My mom raised us the same, we never went, my moms teeth are SO bad. Ask your doctor to give you an RX to keep you calm, they will.
MANY hugs, and you did the right thing!!!

  11. I do not know of any one who does not fear the dreaded dentist. We were the same as you in growing up. I remember one time when i HAD MOM UP ALL NIGHT CAUSE i WAS suffering from a toothache. The closer we got to the dentist the more I tried to convince everyone it didn't hurt any more. Didn't work. I have had dentures since I was 37.Better than none. Good luck my girl. You won't regret going once it is over.

  12. I can't afford veneers, but my insurance will cover dentures. Only problem, my teeth are in very good shape and my dentist wont' pull them! LOL

I wish you lots of luck!

  14. My BIL jokes about getting dentures...are you serious?? Are your teeth really that bad? Braces wouldn't help?? And girl why in the heck are you paying to have dental insurance if you've not been using it?? Geez woman! LOL. ;) Just ribbing you. I hope your dental visit goes well. Good luck...I'm sure I'll read about it next or something. LOL
